When the cost of living on the island is exactly the same as the UK, it is very difficult to live on the wage paid for a single man, but impossible for a married man, unless, like me, my wife was working. However, to be fair to King Richard III College, the other international schools here all pay the same "minimum wage" for teachers and all the teachers there resent it, too!

For example, there is a dire lack of up-to-date textbooks in Science, and no range of Physics reading material to inspire the brighter students at King Richard III College. However, there is a library full of Harold Robbins old editions donated from parents!

The kids even have to buy their own exercise book. Mr B pays for one textbook per pupil each year and considers that enough for 'the curriculum'. Narrow-minded?...
