Living on St. Croix is not like living on other islands, as it seems to have been left behind in time (cruise ships stopped coming...I wonder why)? The post never seems to arrive, no one wants to serve you and there is no support from the community when you arrive or afterwards.... Rents have skyrocketed out of control in the past year, and one cannot rent anything half-decent for under a 1,000 a month at Good Hope School.... There are, of course, some great teachers and students in Good Hope School, and I have never come across such a hard-working faculty. But the present head makes extremely sporadic decisions. For example: pay bonuses cut w/o justification, one spouse of a teaching couple received bonus and not the other although they both do the same job, a class teacher who is respected in the community and been in the school for 11 years demoted to teacher's aid, staff meetings where.... |
