Where to start? I have a feeling this is going to be a long review of Overseas Family School, no matter how hard I try to cut it short... First, Overseas Family School is a huge school - about 4000 students, jammed into a fairly small campus right in the heart of Orchard, central city Singapore... Overseas Family School is one of the few schools in Singapore without a waiting list. They just keep adding more... In my classroom at Overseas Family School, I had zero books, no games or puzzles, no posters for the walls, and one small carpet with 25 squares drawn on it in permanent marker so that the kids each had a tiny square to sit in... The curriculam leaders are the saving grace of the Elementary school at Overseas Family School... Overseas Family School does not hire through recruitment agencies - instead they do all their hiring through their own website... General unhappiness is the mood of Overseas Family School - for example, the Xmas party had to be cancelled as not enough people signed up to go. I've never heard of that happening anywhere else... Poor health insurance - Singapore has great health care, but Overseas Family School provides basically enough cover to get you two GP visits per year... Overseas Family School has a low housing allowance. You are given enough for about one third of your rent... In the last PYP evaluation report, the Overseas Family School had 4 Matters to Be Addressed and about 42 recommendations... The Overseas Family School is amazing in that it manages to attract some really awesome teachers. But it treats them so badly... The kids at Overseas Family School are great, as usual.
