Comments: The
Harare International School has faced horrific economic constraints
over the past several years. Now that the economy has stabilized
and been dollarized it has been placed under severe economic
constraints. Many overseas hires are leaving Harare International School this year, especially
those with higher degrees and many years of experience internationally
and are being replaced with lower qualified and experienced
teachers or with locals.
The
school board is made up of primarily local parents who are
pushing their agenda: the need to cut
costs. The elementary school is....
Housing
is adequate at Harare
International School,
but declining. Most foreign hire housing consists of a walled,
electrified compound of an acre or
more. Houses have pools and usually nice gardens (depending
on the water situation). The furniture provided by Harare
International School is
for the most part very old, often broken and dirty, and inadequate
for teacher needs but the quality varies from house
to house. We had to purchase around $1500 worth of furniture
to make us comfortable, but this was before dollarisation,
and costs for the same would probably be about double this
now....
