IB schools in Sweden

Post by bang »

Hi!
Anybody could tell me the difference between Europaskolan, Futuraskolan and International School?
Cant understand why the fee structure of these 3 schools is so different.

Europaskolan claims to be IB but they sound very Swedish to me.

International School claims to be the only true international school.

I am lost ?

Short answers:

Europaskolan is a state funded, non profit school (basically like a charter school).
Futuraskolan is a state funded, for profit school.
IS Stockholm is a private school.

IS Stockholm is "THE" international school, and is the DOS school in Stockholm. They offer a true international school experience and student body. They offer IB PYP, MYP, and DIP.

Europaskolan is a non profit IB school, but doesnt offer diploma, so you cant graduate from there. As a result they have to fit the Swedish curriculum into the IB framework (which isnt hard to do), because students will need to enter gymnasium (upper/senior high school) to graduate.

Futuraskolan is a state funded school (parents need to pay fees for the "international program") for profit school, that has an "IB" sounding curriculum and philosophy though they are NOT an IB school (basically an imitation). They have a swedish curriculum, and you cant graduate from there (they only go to grade 9). They are a very new school, and are managed by a company (Futuraskolan) that run several school in the stockholm area. One of their primary campuses is all swedish the other primary is english. The secondary school is integrated english/swedish.

Of the three IS stockholm is the only "real" international school, the other two are essentially local schools, with an international focus (Europaskolan has a legitimate international (IB) curriculum, Futuraskolan is faking it). The education quality is somewhat dubious, because the education performance of the students isnt really testable, since both schools have to feed into the Swedish gymnasium system, an IB school (that offers diploma), or an IGCSE school.

Wow that was an amazing answer! Very useful. Still wondering how you know all the local subtleties...
I visited Futuraskolan last January and I am thinking about it now as it was very similar to Wells in terms of student population, atmosphere, settings.
