Hi AJG!
Just to clarify, an MTEL helps you get a teaching licence? I’m new to all this and I’ve been reading so much that I’m so confused..
What is the process that leads to a licence ? Do I pass the tests and just apply for one?

The MTEL is the professional credentialing examination for DTs in the state of Massachusetts (MA). MA has a unique credentialing scheme that will award you a Provisional (Entry grade) credential based on having the equivalent of a 4 year US degree and completing the appropriate MTEL exams, no EPP/ITT program is required. You must take at least two exams, one a general English literacy exam (Communication Literacy) and the other a subject matter test. A number of these tests are available to take remotely eliminating the need to travel. The Provisional credential is effectively a lifetime credential as the 5 year limit applies specifically to working in MA.
While this results in a professional edu credential that checks the 'legal' box it is purely an assessment pathway that doesnt even test meds/peds/asst. Its been around long enough that while there are many lower tier ISs that dont care, leaders and recruiters are aware of the process to this particular credential.
