WORKING HOURS IN QATAR
WORKING HOURS IN QATAR
What is the average working week in Qatar in an international school? At my new school the contract is 48 hours plus 1 hour for ECAs. ECAs and any extra hours are not paid. So, is a 49 hour week normal (as they say it is) under Qatari law. It seems excessive.
Re: WORKING HOURS IN QATAR
Two questions, two answers.
This is not typical for international schools in Qatar. Forty hours is typical for the better schools. Some silly schools dismiss students ridiculous early, resulting in an even shorter work week for teachers, but they're not schools that are good for kids.
Qatar labor law allows for up to 48 hours per week.
So if this is what your school does, that sucks. But the law won't help.

Many thanks - another thing to swallow before heading back to WE!

Agree with @Sid, thats not normal, though it is legal at 48 hours, but they would legally need to pay you for that 1 hour past 48. Qatar labor law wouldnt exempt that hour just because the IS claims ASPs are not paid.
