Search Associates and a Spouse

Hi - I thought I read that someone said that they recommend that only one of a teaching couple should register with SA, but I just received this from them:

I note that you have a partner who is also a teacher, who is looking for employment in an international school. You have not indicated that your partner will also register with our company. However if you wish to be considered by schools as a ‘teaching couple, ’ then BOTH of you need to complete your registration procedures before either file can be activated. To be clear: if you wish to be regarded as a teaching couple you will need to be activated as a couple rather than as separate individuals. Please let me know if your partner has already registered or begun registration with one of my colleagues. Please also note it is not acceptable for one partner to register with us, and then use her / his registration to engage in job searches on behalf of the non registered partner.

So, I guess I have to cough up the other registration fee, no?

Re: Warning sign or passive aggression?

Be afraid... be very afraid

If you had used the word "Head" instead of "Principal", I would think you and I were working at the same school. Our Head would say the same things and act the same way. I, too, was hired by an outgoing Head and one of the first things the current Head said to me was that I was being paid too much.

Do you have any exit options?

Re: Warning sign or passive aggression?

While it's almost impossible to tell what's going on in your situation, I know that in my school we only CC in the Head when the relationship between the two parties has gone professionally sour for some reason... if that makes sense. Most of us only do it when we are emailing with the Second Head because we are tired of his unprofessionalism. When we CC in the Head, we get a correct, respectful response.
Have you created any friction recently?

As I said, I'm Canadian. I'm not sure they liked that one of their little colonies kicked their arses :)

While I agree with you about what Schrole is, I have come across a few ISs that state that they only accept applications through Schrole (IS of Prague, for example)

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
I'm on TES as well

FYI - TO has raised their rates to $39 for the basic web only package

They're just upset that the British teaching system isn't very good - the latest PISA results attest to that - tee hee hee

TIEonline as a supplement to SA?

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered. I've tried searching, but came up with nothing.

After 3 years with my school, it's time to move on. My wife will be fully certified by the end of this school year and we are hoping to move up a Tier.

I got my current IS job from TO after being rejected by SA due to trailing spouse and two dependents. I'm about to start the hunt and I'm planning on signing up with SA (for their database, not the fairs) and I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to renew with TO as well. I'm currently registered with Schrole (unpaid) and have gotten interviews through them, but nothing fruitful. I've also got a lot of interview requests from Linkedin, but mostly from lower tier schools.

Thoughts?

Re: QTS Certification

Hi - I'm Canadian, but did my teacher's cert through a university in the States.I applied for QTS status through the National College for Teaching & Leadership, jumped through some paper hoops, and was awarded it a month or so later.
Easy peasy lemon squeezey.
I had no real reason to do it, other than fitting in with everyone that I was working with at a British International school. Those pompous Brits seemed to look down at any other qualification, except a British one.
