This is posted on the TES website under reasons why candidates don't get shortlisted:

You apply for too many jobs: “I have seen on the TES website that your school offers many employment opportunities, and would like to apply for the posts of Senior Teacher in the Junior School, Head of Physics, Head of Psychology and teacher of English in the Senior Schoolâ€

I visited the Fairview website after following the link from the IBO site.

I didn't like the website, looked amateurish, but is it really that bad?

I always take a look (if possible) at the teachers teaching my subject and the IB DP English teacher there looks well qualified enough with MA Eng., MA Hist., MEd., MPhil Eng., PGCTE., DCA!

Will your children be educated free at the school? Education can be expensive in BKK if not.

It does depend on the lifestyle that you lead but BKK is great value for money and 90K can go a long way.

I lived there for two years, earned 55K as a single man, had no rent to pay, lived well (non-western style) and still saved 30K of that a month.

If you kept an eye on your expenditure the first year you could live OK, and laughing with two incomes the second...

Any idea which part of the city will you stay?

I live in west Jakarta and this week a few of the teachers at my school have been getting excited because a bar has opened up above a supermarket close to where we live (10-15 mins taxi ride)... yippee!!!

Now I realise that usually that wouldn't be anything to get excited about but it's the only bar in the area - before that there was nothing, no bars or pubs within 'reasonable' travelling distance. The only place to get a beer has been a shop or the 'Mr. Pancake' restaurant (allegedly) - that's how dire socially things can be. Other parts of town are better.

So ask your school where you will be staying and be prepared for the appalling traffic and long travel times if you want to go anywhere.

I'm another great fan of Istanbul and would love to have the opportunity of teaching there sometime.

My first trip there was back in 1991 when a friend was teaching ESL with a private school in Kadıköy on the Asian side of the city.

I too know nothing about this school but the starting salaries of $22.800 to $31.200USD (Tax free) don't appear particularly high for the city.

Re: Well....
Honestly, and I advise this of new people that you should focus more on the location your moving too and not the school. Really, all schools will have something you hate or doesnt work for you, but the school is your job, its the thing you do so you can afford to do the other stuff. Ive found that if the best thing about a new position is the school, and theres nothing else where your at, then the school and therefor work becomes your life.
Going through this currently, I have to agree with this comment/observation 100% - school is not your life, or I would hope not. Once you get home after work life begins again: What shall we eat tonight? Where shall we go? What did you do today honey?

When the answer to those questions are the same as the day before or worse still, you don't even bother asking them because you already know the answer - then indeed work has become your raison d'etre, and that's not the way it should be.

I'm one of 'those teachers' who has just broken onto the international school scene and landed their first post after a few years working in local schools.

I'm just over 6 months into my two year contract, living in a city which both my gf and I do not like in the slightest - I knew I didn't like it before I came, it's her first time here - we just don't 'get it'.

And yes, it's not easy, not easy, not easy... I count down the days until the next holiday when I can escape abroad and get my life back for a week or two!

But, as has been said, we do it for the IB experience, international school experience and the hope that it will lead to better things...

Roll on June 2013!!!

As no one else seems to be offering a reply I'll tell you the little I know about the school, hope it is of some help.

I was there in November for an IB Conference. Nice campus although not particularly new. It's set within a leafy suburb of Jakarta, where I'm told the teacher's accomodation is particularly nice.

I met the new headmistress, she's from the UK and she told me this was her first overseas position.

It is a well regarded school within JKT and the teacher's package document that is downloadable from the school's website appears to back that up (at least compared to my own school, which is also in JKT).

Teaches the curriculum of E&W with a seperate building for IBDP.

They were advertising a teaching position for my subject last month and if I didn't have such a strong dislike for JKT (my gf and I just haven't got on with the city at all) I would definitely appy for a position there.

That's all I can offer I'm afraid, good luck...

Say you are wishing to gain experience by working in a different country and school.

You could also mention you are hoping for further responsibilities etc. in a new post.

I'm starting a DP online course in a few weeks time. My school is paying the £350 fee.

I've chosen the 8 week rather than the 4 week condensed course. PM me mid December and I'll give you my feedback.
