I have been talking to and emailing with the superintendent for the past couple of weeks. The last time we talked (last Sunday) he said he would email me late this week and call me Sunday. Well.... the internet was shut down in Egypt so I knew he couldn't email and cell phone service was just recently restored so we'll see if I hear from him today. In addition, he was supposed to be at the job fair this weekend but my understanding is that there are no flights leaving Egypt.

Now CNN is reporting that the State Department is urging all Americans to leave the country so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I was supposed to sign my contract today for a school in Cairo :-(

One of the places I was told I could live was Maadi, where several of the other teachers lived. I read online that Maadi was one of the areas where homes were being broke into and looted, so I am very concerned for the teacher's safety.

For those of you with years of international experience, please share your information with us if you've experienced anything like this.

Cairo, Egypt

Just wondering if anyone has had contact with any American teachers who are working in Cairo?? And if so, what have they said about the situation there?

Certification

I have K - 8 certification but have only taught kindergarten (for 15 years). Would there be a chance I could get hired teaching another grade? or would I be better only trying to get K since all my experience is there?

Question about resume

I'm attending UNI and have a question about the CV/resume. I've read where it is suggested to take about 25 extra copies to distribute in case the schools want one (even though I've already sent a copy via email to the schools I'm interested in). My questions are:

1) When do you hand them out?

2) Should this resume/CV be in a folder or is it OK to just give a stapled copy?

Obviously this is my first time so not sure how to go about this.

Thanks for the info

I read where you said there were 500 teachers at the Bangkok fair. Can someone tell me how many teachers usually go to the UNI fair?

Also, is having IB experience as important at the elementary level as it seems to be in middle/high school?

Sponsoring Clubs and Extra-Curricular activities

I have applied for several prek and k positions and have received some interest from a couple of schools. I've noticed on just about every website it says that all teachers would be responsible for sponsoring some type of clubs and/or activities. Could someone give me an idea of what a prek or k teacher would sponsor??

What kinds of questions are you typically asked at the interviews? I read somewhere that you could even be asked to demonstrate a short teaching lesson. I've worked for the same school for 20 years so it's been a while since I've interviewed and was just wondering what kinds of questions to prepare for....

Tier 1 schools

I've read alot about international schools being classified as a "tier 1" school or not. Could someone explain what makes a school qualify as a tier 1 or lower and give examples of which schools are which?
