currently separated

Hi all,

I just interviewed for a job and they asked me about my current marriage status- separated- on my profile at SA. Sigh. How much of a liability does this make me for getting positions internationally? Does anyone have experience with this? Is it better to just say single when asked about this ? The fact is my spouse will NOT be coming with me and I don't have kids so...just curious if anyone had any similar issues / problems getting hired in certain areas of the world?

Thanks everyone

Re: downsides of working at national schools?

Thanks for your reply. If the student body is say 95% local even if they teach IB they wouldn't be considered international , is what I'm understanding you wrote.
So , that could jeopardize my experience as an International school teacher if I stayed there over 2 years.
Thanks for your time . :)

downsides of working at national schools?

Hi all,

I've been getting interest and offers from some national schools in different places, and I wondered how bad is it for your career to take a job at a good national school? Will the international school community disown you or look down on your experience somehow?

Thanks!

Annual Savings Expectations

I'm new to SA and i wondered how accurate these estimations happen to be , if at all reliable.
Example - read a review here about HKIS (I know housing is expensive in HK) where the reviewers gave high marks for salary and housing satisfaction but on SA their annual savings expectations are N/A, which I take to mean as good luck saving anything...anyone have any insight about SA info vs review info for savings potential?

Thanks!

Re: CHINA OR INDIA (BEIJING OR NEW DELHI)

I lived in India for 3 years . It really takes adjusting to, some learn to love it others can't wait to leave. How's your patience level? There's a lot to see but you'll be singled out for 'rich expat' at every turn- ie you'll be taken advantage of by default all the time. Advantage- you'll sometimes get preferential treatment, disadvantage- people will ignore you as you don't belong in 'the hierarchy' , so you won't be taken seriously either. If you do go there, find some good indian friends asap. You'll learn where to go to get what you need, without being gouged. You can get most things in India but you have to know where to look. Everything is connections there. Once you've made these, you're good. If you don't know the system, you'll probably be ready to leave in 6 months. Plus- educated folks speak english, local shop/store keepers don't. The subway system works there but forget about personal space. . If you're female, be extra cautious Good luck whichever you choose!

SA job fair Cambridge

Hello all,

I'm planning on going to this job fair because it's close by but I don't see many schools in locations where I want to teach (Japan, Thailand for example) Chinese schools and Middle Eastern schools seem to be the most represented. Any advice about applying maybe without going to the fair? My area is 6 years IB and AP Chem if anyone knows of schools looking for that esp in Bangkok or Tokyo? Thanks for any advice everyone !
