Re: Package Negotiations

Only the sh_t schools would even consider negotiating - and then they would offer sh_t. You should feel lucky and grateful that a top school hired you as a teacher with a non-teaching spouse and 2 dependents.

Try to negotiate and watch the look in their eyes. But, if you are ready to be labeled a troublemaker and an ingrate right off the bat and, maybe, have the contract rescinded - that is only a maybe, go ahead and negotiate.

One question: Why do you feel you are so special that a school would offer a special package to get you? With a non-teaching spouse and 2 dependents - did I mention that already?

And I don't think many people ever filled out those "tomes" ever got a job.

Re: Election Results

So will British teachers - since their country did a Brexit - also be looked down on?

Why do you children keep underestimating the U.S. and Americans? We have the same flaws as the rest of you, but at least we - amongst ourselves - acknowledge them.

NOBODY will leave the U.S. because of Trump. Even all of those self-centered celebrities and millennials who said they would are now keeping very quiet. Just foolish children talking to hear the sounds of their voices.

This election will not affect international education at all. Every school wants Americans, Brits, Canadians, and Aussies and always will.

"PERKS"

On a lighter note, I've been looking at the Search database school profiles and have started to notice some of the "perks" that schools write in, ostensibly to draw attention away fro their mediocre salary/benefit packages.

For example. many schools list "free lunch" as a perk. I mean, "perk".

My favorite is one I just read yesterday...get ready..."you can get a great macchiato for $1.95".

Any others?

Re: School Applications and Frustration

The playing field is sloped steeply in favor of the schools. Your time and convenience mean nothing.

If you always remember that, you will not be disappointed.

Re: Election Results

Why Trump won? This article says it best:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/09/opinions/ ... index.html

And, FYI, I did not vote for Trump.

AND there will not be an exodus from America.

By the way, are you as hard on Brits, who voted for Brexit - who showed the same fear, ignorance, and stupidity as Trump voters -as you are on Americans?

It's time to think positively and band together now - you know, like we teach our students.

Re: Health Insurance and U.S.

Yeah, and depending on the state you live in, pay a few to several hundred dollars. Much more if you have a pre-existing condition - up to 3 times more to be precise.

Health Insurance and U.S.

I've noticed that more and more schools are offering health insurance that excludes treatment in the U.S. (and sometimes Canada).

Will this be a trend for the future? If so, where will this put U.S. and Canadian teachers?

Re: What happens if...

Nothing to be ashamed of. Dying alone in a foreign country is something that could terrify most people.

I think now that the U.S. - are you American - has Obamacare and pre-existing conditions cannot be used as an excuse to deny insurance, you could buy your own health insurance. It may cost more, but so what.

You might want to research what health insurance would cost you in your home state.

Hey, Joe,

That was U.S. not U.K.

And because of your bs Thames Pirate probably won't answer my questions about her country and pension.
