Australian tax
Australian tax
Any readers have advice about Australian taxation arrangements? Is it better to declare as "Non resident for tax purposes" or remain resident? I'm at an international school in Thailand - three years so far and intend to stay for at least another year. Income from Australian sources approx AUD5,000 per year. No dependants.

Since the latest budget applied changes to the taxation arrangements for ex-pats, it is definitely better to declare as 'non-resident for tax purposes' although it depends on your individual circumstances as to whether or not you qualify as non-resident. Otherwise, under the new rules, you will need to pay tax on your overseas eraned income at Australian tax rates.
