How Competitve?

Hello Everyone,

I taught in South America from 2013-2016 and have since taught in the States. I am itching to go back abroad but I feel my hiatus from international schools may hinder my chances. I'm a highly qualified visual arts teacher and have my eye on South Africa. How competitive would you say these schools are compared to Europe? I was offered a part-time position in Germany but couldn't get an interview at the schools I was targeting. Thanks!

Well, I think a lot of this happens to be about where you are aiming to end up.
When you were teaching abroad were you at an IB school? It appears that holds quite a bit of weight with many IS's.

You can do anything for about a year and not have any effect on your marketability. Teaching in DE is still teaching, though there may be some minor decrease in your marketability depending on the type of DS your experience is from.
The EU is generally more competitive, but if your only focusing on the tier 1/Elite IS in S.Africa those tiers of ISs are very competitive globally.
