What are the key reasons that you believe Heads of School/Directors/Principals lose touch with the pulse of a school?
What characteristics do you believe to be key in order to stay in touch?

They focus on looking up at the goal, instead of down at the foundation that will get them there.
They forget what it is like to be in the trenches, and assume that everybody doesn't need to have the vision shared with them to understand.
They get busy and things get last minute.
They speak before thinking, or finding out all sides.
They promote nice people, instead of qualified people who may also be nice.
They fall out of touch with the students.
The list goes on...

They begin to think they are the pulse of the IS, they lose sight of the IS and thus its pulse, or they stop caring, feeling the pulse doesnt matter anymore.

Sometimes they bring their own agenda which has nothing to do with the good of the school, despite their claims. I've aworked for principals that are so obvious padding their resumes to the detriment of staff and students to the point where they are taking credit for actions that they may not even taken.
