Have you completed your EAS? If so, what areas are you qualified in?

The needs for DoDEA are generally much the same every year and are spread out quite a bit. Secondary is generally easier to get into since many elementary positions seem to go to military spouses and local hires (and there are many ES candidates in the EAS system).

SPED, Math and Science are always good areas to have (especially if you can offer multiple specialized area within those certs). SS and ELA are fine but you really need to have certifications in other areas to be really competitive. CTE positions like Culinary, Computer based classes, JROTC, etc can also be useful (fewer positions but also few qualified candidates).

In general, the more certifications you have/can offer a prospective principal, the better off you are. That being said, most every area gets hired every year so anything is possible.

Thanks for the info,
I qualified for MS Science and health, HS science, biology, chemistry, health. I really appreciate your thoughts on my chances.

No problem. That is a pretty good combination of certifications. The odds of any one individual getting hired are long due to the large number of applicants and small number of openings every year but you seem to have good a chance as anyone (and better than some).

There is another forum specifically for DoDEA hopefuls on teachers.net if you are interested.

Six qualifications is about what you need to get noticed especially in broad fields like science. Getting noticed doesnt mean anything though. You cant just decide your going to get hired in any one year by DoDDS because you want to, no more than you can say your going to win the lottery this year. DoDDS has to be your plan C. There are candidates who get hired their first year and many who wait years and never get an offer. To put it in perspective there are tens of thousands of applications in EAS in any given recruiting cycle, and all vacancies combined their are a few hundred each year. So yes you have as much of a chance of anyone with a similar profile, but those are very very low probabilities.
There is nothing in high demand in DODEA, EAS can fill just about any vacancy combination (the ones it cant are esoterically combined positions, that dont actually come up as positions).
