Hi!
I plan to attend the ISS Recruitment Fair in New York in February and I am not sure if it's a good idea to stay till the last day (Thursday) or leave one day earlier (Wednesday). The interviews are from 8am-4 pm but the hotel check-out time is 12 pm. In case you have attended this fair before, what suggestions do you have?

What have you decided to do? I will be going down to ISS NYC and am trying to decide the same thing myself. In looking at the schedule, it almost seems like Thursday might be important for any 2nd or 3rd interviews.

You don't need a roommate at all do you? :lol: :wink:

I've already found a roommate! Sorry!!!! Well, I am leaving the fair on Wednesday afternoon. Somebody who has attended that fair before told me not too many recruiters stay around that last day since many go to other fairs. I don;t know if I have taken the right decision or not. Besides, I cannot take so many days off from school. :(

I think I've decided not to attend on Monday. It seems to be that it's only registration on Monday and not much else. At least it seems to be that the main stuff doesn't start happening until Tuesday. Like you I'm hoping I made the right decision. If I get a job offer on Tuesday or Wednesday then I guess I can always change my flight and head back to work early (I, also, have to take time off)!

Has anyone attending the NY fair received any interviews yet?

Anyone else going to the ISS fair? My fiance and I sent out resumes but have only gotten acknowledgments, no interview requests. Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal. If a school wants to interview you, they will put an invite in your mailbox at the Fair.

Wow. It seems scary to put everything on those few days. I am silly to be so anxious about this?

I'm scared about that, too! It's only a couple of days, and granted I'm a specialist in an "in demand" field (heard rumors about more jobs than applicants). I'm still worried. I haven't sent out any resumes yet though, as ISS Bangkok just finished and people may have accepted jobs, and left old jobs so new jobs will open. *shrugs*

Which "in demand" field might that be? I've moved from a generalist K-8 to a specialist, Tech Director/Facilitator. I guess there are two ways to look at it; one, you've narrowed down your choices for destinations, or two, you've narrowed down the competition.

I looked at Search Bangkok and there seemed to be 3-4 jobs; Shanghai, ISKL, Oman that would have been there, but it didn't work out and I'd possibly like to go next year. I'll be traveling from the States so it's a big risk. I much preferred the 'old' days when more school, especially big ones were going to UNI. Easier on travel for some.

This is our first fair. We sent out many resumes and have only gotten acknowledgments. We thought we would get more direct interview invitations. Can someone with more experience with this tell us how this whole process goes?

Do not get discouraged by a lack of response from schools. At the fair you will have mailboxes and from my experience this is where most schools will make first contact. Also, don't worry if you arrive and there aren't any invitations there. Recruiters seem to roll in at all hours and at our last fair we got invitations even after the initial signup. Good luck

Those of you who have attended this NYC fair before, how many interviews did you have the first two days? I have made arrangements to leave the hotel on Wednesday after noon and now I wonder if that was a good move....or not.

I just attended my first fair at UNI and took a great position. It does you no good to be anxious and will not help you to think clearly when you have a decision to make. This is a big deal, but not a life or death deal, so keep your prospective and enjoy the whole thing. Talk to recruiters in the elevators, be friendly, don't worry about wearing the perfect interview clothes, try to get some sleep each night, talk to other candidates (they may put you onto the perfect job, one they don't want). Don't come late and leave early. Commit to the process with good humor. Enjoy! This is life.
