using your school email address to contact employers?

Is sending emails to schools looking for work from your present school email account not advisable? Even if you are completing your contract? I'm wondering if it's in some ways good as it in a way proves you are probably presently employed and is has 'edu' in the email address.

I wouldn't even if everything was rainbows and pixie dust with your current IS and HOS (which is rarely the case as truly good ITs are missed and represent a loss to an IS, no one in leadership looks forward to replacing a good IT). There is nothing you need to prove, you have a positive reference letter, if you dont a .edu address doesnt mean anything.

The three biggest problems are that:

1) Your using IS property and resources that you might be using during work hours. Even if your IS is okay with this, it has potential to be misinterpreted. It just looks unprofessional.

2) You IS can read anything and everything that is sent and received.

3) The biggest issue is that when you leave you will likely lose your email account access and any saved documents, which may include important documents from the new job, etc.

Yes, it authenticates your current employment and gives your prospective employers some form of transparency.

On the other hand, if you receive documentation (contracts, curriculum etc.) from your new school to your current 'edu' address, you might be leaving a trail and by default 'sharing' them with your current school. You might even in some cases breaching data protection policies of your future employer.

I for one will never use my current school email address unless a headhunter formally insists as is the case with folks hosting the GRC fair in Dubai in November.
