Does anyone have recent info about how this school is doing? The most recent review is from 2011. Anyone know what it's like? Morale? Admin? Salary and benefits? Also, I had heard that Brazil has been having real problems with their currency devaluing and that salaries have taken a big hit. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, do schools there have some kind of plan in place to address this? Thanks.

How long do you want to look at the exchange rate? Look at it over one day it started at a low of .260 and peaked at .267, which is a change of 7 thousandths, which isnt even significant when rounding consumer exchanges. If you look at it over the course of a year it was at a peak of .388 a year ago and now its at .266, thats a loss of a third of its value. Look at it over the course of 10 years when it was at a peak of .651 in the middle of 2011 and where it was at it lowest this year at .250 and you see an even greater loss of nearly two third of its value. The real isnt exactly a stable currency, but its Brazil, its not a SDR currency, and its Brazil.

Upper tier ISs in regions with significant currency fluctuations generally have one of three general policy programs in place to address such fluctuations: 1) They quote and pay their salaries in a stable currency (such as USD). Your contract salary is USD$36KUSD, you receive USD$3K each month either in cash in an envelope or you have USD$3K deposited into a foreign currency account into your local/overseas bank. The entire transaction is in a stable currency the entire time. You decide when to withdraw and convert your coin into the local currency and how much. 2) The IS pays in local currency but guarantees a minimum exchange rate. 3) The IS pays in local currency but sets the exchange rate at periodical points throughout the year (usually two, January and July).
