Questions about searching for 2016-2017

I have pretty much decided that the next school year will be my last at my current school. I would like to get a jump start on looking for 2016-2017. I was hoping to get some advice from more experienced international teachers on this board. I am currently in Latin America and will be completing my 4th year (11 years experience teaching overall). I am a single elementary teacher with no dependents and no IB experience. I would really like to end up somewhere in SE Asia...Bangkok would be my first choice but Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos would be great also. How much will the lack of IB experience hurt? I will be traveling in the region this summer. Would it be appropriate to email a resume in late May/early June and ask if any administrators would be interested in meeting with me while I am there (and if they are not on vacation)? I realize its way too early for them to know about any openings, but I thought perhaps I could at least meet them and express and interest in working at their school. I plan to register with ISS. My current position was obtained by applying directly to the school.

Lack of IB experience is going to be a significant factor at an IB school. PYP isnt something you read, and then just do. It typically requires a lot of work, experimentation, and trial and error, making mistakes before you can successfully implement PYP. Your first year in PYP is pretty much a training year.

Sure it would be appropriate to inquire in advance, it may even result in an interview and potential offer. The worst they can say is no, just be prepared for either no response or polite declines. Be sure to be very specific that your interest is as a potential employee, you dont want to risk an admin/HOS mistaking your inquiry for a parent visit.

SA would likely be a better option for a premium agency with your goals.
