If I've already applied for a position with a school and then the school either a) reposts a job for the same position or b) posts new positions that I am qualified for, should I e-mail the school to express my continued interest... or should I assume they're not interested and move on?

You should reapply and also assume that they werent interested. It really depends on the time frame between when you applied and when they reposted. If its a month or less they arent interested more than a month and reapply. This assumes you applied by reume and letter and didnt complete an application online.

Many schools dont have the resources to archive resumes and even if they did its just easier to repost a vacancy then it is to try and determine by contact who is and isnt available.

I would reapply as well... but maybe try and make your application slightly different, no point sending the same application again.

That happened to me! And the second time around I got offered a position. I guess second-best (or third-best, or tenth-best) is good enough sometimes.

Nothing, really. I just re-submitted their online application.
