Any current info about the American School in Japan. I have heard the package isn't quite what it used to be. Is that true? Is it a place with savings potential or much too difficult living in Tokyo? Thanks for any info.

I hear that It's true that former/older teachers had it much better in the glory days. That being said, I think you would still do just fine. Last I'd heard, housing allowance still covers a very nice little house or flat in the neighborhood of the school and the salary should still allow for a good standard of living and savings (especially if part of a couple).
Still a great place to live and work (or so I hear).

I believe there was a previous post that everyone starts at the lowest salary scale regardless of experience?

I don't know about that specifically. But even if it is true, the starting salary is $68K+ apparently which seems pretty reasonable.
