Keystone Academy

Post by newchapter »

I'm sure someone has asked but the 'search' doesn't work very well on here. Anyone know anything about the Keystone Academy opening up in Beijing?

Chinese bilingual startup.
If you look at the website and check out the people you can read between the lines. And it won't necessarily be all bad.
There are some fairly well known characters in the starting line, plenty of genuine expertise. Basically, it boils down to if you have the cojones to handle a start up?
Money will probably be good, and if you are pretty competent with ESL then your classroom time will be ok. But there will be changes, stops, starts, and more changes for a good few years yet. Growth will be staggering, so if you can't cope with starting out with classes of 10 at the start of the year rising rapidly to 25 at the end (before they can recruit new staff to take up the overflow) then think again.
The other concern is if you have kids. Putting them into an international school is one thing, but being one of a VERY few kids of your nationality amongst almost exclusively chinese kids might not work. Nothing wrong with Chinese kiddoes - usually super fun! But it can be hard work for your own.
Frankly, if you can weather the storms and truly jump on board with the vision, being part of a start up is an amazing experience.
You know yourself best.

Thanks...no, I'm a single female no dependents. This is my first foray into international teaching although I did the language school thing in Tokyo 20 years ago.
