Association of American Schools in South America

Post by gphillonline »

I joined AASA after learning that the South American schools have their own job fair. However, I later noticed that only one school in Argentina belongs to this association. Now I feel like I should sign up for Search, but they also have only three schools. Any pointers?

Thanks, but does this mean that all of these schools use no recruiter and I should apply to each school individually?

Reality

Post by PsyGuy »

Lincoln (AIS Buenos Aires), St. Andrews, and St. George's are represented by Search. Lincoln (AIS Buenos Aires), is the DOS school and isnt on the list above. COBIS doesnt have a UK National school in Argentina. Canada has no schools recognized by any provincial educational ministry in Argentina. No schools in Argentina are currently listed with TIE online.

Its not a well advertised reality, but many schools dont use the big agencies. Many dont use an international agency at all. Of the biggest Search has just under 650 school, compared to over 2000 IB schools alone, start adding the DOS schools, COBIS schools etc, and then start to look at the IGCSE schools and the agencies only have a very narrow and small proportion of the school spectrum. Those schools may list vacancies as needed with a local recruiting agency or with partner organizations, but unless they do, the ONLY real way to keep updated on their vacancies is by regulrley visiting their HR website.
You can see how then an agency like Search isnt of much use. Aside from only having 3 schools, those three schools are such a small fraction of the number of the total number of schools.

Psyguy,

Where do you find such an exhaustive list of schools? The casual google search only found me around 50% of that number.

Thanks,

schools in Argentina

Unless you are bilingual in Spanish, I wouldn't bother with any schools except the top 3. It depends on the experience you are looking for. Only the top 3 will have salaries comparable to other international schools and have the benefits associated with the circuit.

If you want to live in Argentina no matter what - go ahead and contact the other schools. Do not expect an international schools experience - but you will get to live in an amzing country with a beautiful clmate.

Good luck!

OR you really need/want IB experience. Otherwise I would echo and agree with overseas vet. All but the 3 Search schools wont be the international school experience. Many of them are bilingual, or local schools/programs.

I got the impression that Argentina, and Argentina alone is where you want to be, which in my experience is a lot like the teachers I meet who want to go to Japan. It doenst matter what they are teaching or where they are really teaching, its living in the country that matters to them.

Sorry, I didnt answer your question before trojan. My list is nothing more then the 49 IB schools in Argentina. You can find it here:

Hi, I'm looking at the Northlands webpage - there is no review in the reviews section. Can you please share information regarding this school?
