Hi, I am a speech/language pathologist looking to work out of the country during the 2013-2014 school year. I am wondering if many international schools are looking to hire Speech therapists and when to start the process of looking for work.
thanks

Almost none, your better off and in MUCH higher demand if you apply with the DODEA, DoDDS schools. Youd probably get hired this year.

An affiliated organization is EDIS:

Can you afford to freelance? S&L is in demand in many countries eg Egypt. It is very well paid privately once you have built up a clientele.

The biggest problem you find with an S&L is that most independent schools cant justify the expense of having one on staff full time. Special needs services arent what you will find in the USA. Even the best schools like SAS, acknowledge that their SPED programs dont meet USA requirements. Only a handful of the largest international school would likely have an S&L.

The other problem is that the municipal school systems would require you to be fluent (or at least proficient) in the native language.

I know a S&L in Singapore who operates her own practice, and does VERY well.
