I'm currently in Germany and looking at making the move to Oman, or the ME in general and I'm wondering about internet..how fast can you get? Is it restricted? I do a lot of bit torrent downloading and I'm wondering if this is possible or government firewall this stuff there...

Also, how much does it cost?

While we're on the topic..is there 3G network there on cell phones? ie. can I use my iPhone properly? Is it expensive?

I'm in Oman and the Internet service seems somewhat primitive. I'm on a waiting...and waiting...and waiting list to get a landline and wi-fi. The difference between what I have and wi-fi at my neighbor's is amazing. What I have (it's like a flash drive) is 22OR a month; wi-fi through the phone company is 20OR.

Skype is banned but there are workarounds via a proxy server. Can't advise regarding the other thing you mentioned; have no idea what that is.
