Which country would you choose to teach in and why ?

I hear Doha is very expensive- is that true ?

I have lived here (QATAR) 3 years. Save 40+ each year.

Clubs and bars are very expensive... (beer=10 bucks)

Groceries are cheaper than the USA. Gas is a dollar a gallon. Tons of free athletic events.

My housing is free from our school. Our school pays 75% of electric and water bill.

We are very happy here!

@Mike

Can you tell me if a salary of :
9025 per month
plus housing, paid electricity and water, yearly flights,
medical, settling allowance, baggage allowance is
fair ?

I am hearing that 9025 QR is just too low :( ?
The school is English Modern School.
I also hear it is next to impossible to find taxis ??
Thanks.

LOW

Thats really LOW, youd have to be pretty desperate to take a salary that low (or really, really green). EMS, has a pretty bad reputation as well, Ive never heard anything good about them.

Yes, that is really low. I make 15,000.

And you MUST have a car! Taxi's are very hard to get off the street.

That school is not the best either..... It would be a way to get your foot in the door..... but it could be a very rough year....

Hope this helps!

@Mike :

Well, thank-you for this information.
I had a feeling the salary was too low
as I am not a new teacher (I do have experience!).
Thanks also for letting me know about the taxi situation.
Needless to say- I will not be taking this job.

Hey Missy!
About EMS...the salary says negotiable on the website...did you try and negotiate with them or was that the first offer they threw your way?
Was the settling in allowance supposed to help with a car purchase or was it quite low? The benefits seem ok, just the low monthly salary is a shame!
I am thinking of applying there.

Where in Oman

Hi Missy, what school are you considering in Oman? The quality of life here is excellent - great access to beaches, camping, hiking etc. Very little pollution and the people are wonderful.

You also need a car here and I'm not sure how the cost of living compares to Qatar but the same things are more and less expensive - gas is very cheap and bars are expensive.
