I'll start my first international teaching job in August and in all of my packing, I'm wondering if I need to save room for professional resources (workbooks, checklists) I've collected over the years. Some of them, I think, are absolutely necessary but the school may already have some resources I could use.

Should I spend the money/effort to make sure I have them so I'm not stuck without what I'm accustomed to using?

Should I just say to heck with it and just acquire new things when I get there?

Can you bring electronic copies? Otherwise I would bring what you would consider essential and then work from there. Your school will make a huge difference. I have been at some where resources are scarce and others where there is a plethora of resources and I didn't need to bring any. If your school has given you teacher contacts then ask.

I know I could've found most of the books online but I didn't want to have to rebuy them or have to convince the school to buy them. Also, some of them I received at professional development classes and couldn't be found online or electronically.

I don't know if it makes a difference or not but I teach SWD and I wasn't sure what resources would be available once I got there. There are some things I use at least once a week; they wouldn't just collect dust on a shelf.

I decided to mail them anyway. I would rather be prepared than to have to scramble, looking for things that would work for me.
