Looking for information on Asmara Community School in Eritre

i don't see a review of the International Asmara Community School in Eritrea on the International School Reviews. Can anyone offer me any information on the school, the community, the housing?

I was taking a look at this school, as well, but in my research I found that one cannot leave Asmara without a permit! That would certainly limit your spontaneity. Don't know how difficult or capricious the permit-granting is.

Thanks for the information. I have also received information referring to Eritrea as a "police state". Definitely a concern.

Seems like this post hasn't been revisited in awhile. I see that Asmara International Community school is hiring. It doesn't seem to have great reviews but I've read about some schools that didn't have great reviews and then talked to people who worked there and heard that life isn't great but is manageable depending on your outlook. I would be breaking into an IT career and know that my first post may not necessarily be a dream post. I'm a single mom with a pretty resourceful 7 year old (we've spent a month backpacked through the Yucatan before and had a great time) so I'm not looking for a place with crazy fun nightlife. I'd really just like to be somewhere that's safe where there are opportunities to have new experiences. Anyone have any insight into life in Eritrea or life at AICS?

They have an Admin job advertised via Search at the moment. The description of Asmara in the job posting sounds pretty dire. No way to leave the city without a permit, limited destinations from the airport, no broadband internet or 3G, expensive goods in the markets, and to top it all off they also say Americans might not be granted work permits or visas at all.

It's in an interesting and off the beaten track part of the world, but the above list is a lot of hassle to deal with. I have to say though, I commend the school for being honest about the conditions in the city and country.
