Recruiting season South America.. are there two?
It seems like most American schools in South America follow the US school calendar for the most part but is their a recruiting season for international schools that follow the in-country school calendar? If so when would that be? Are there job postings lets say... in June for them?
I found some interesting schools in Chile and Argentina that do not have any postings but follow in country calendars.. I'm wondering if maybe they post at a different time.
Thanks for your thoughts!

I also expected there to be more jobs in the region. As far as I know, the top-tier schools follow our calender anyway so they should have been advertising now. It's especially strange as many schools in South America don't pay particularly well. Those influenced purely by money tend to look elsewhere.
AASSA
Many of the South American schools attend a recruiting fair in early December put on by AASSA. I know many positions are filled at tha time.
I would like to know more about this fair for those who have actually attended.
Thank you.

What do you want to know? They have a fair in Atlanta in December. It's pretty inexpensive for a fair. The schools are mostly from South/Central America and the Caribbean. It's a good fair for first time international school teachers. Even though it's early, the schools are still hiring at the fair. It's a good fair for single teachers.
AASSA Fair
I would like to know of people who went and their experiences. I was planning to go to this one and ISS in ATL. I would be traveling with one child. Also if given an offer must you decide quickly I would really like to go to both to see what is offered at both fairs.
I have also heard salaries quite low, to the tune of 19k-low 20's. Is this typical are most of these schools paying modest salaries. I won't have many bills but would like to save and travel.
Thank you

Well
You pretty much have to decide quickly, anywhere from a couple hours to at most 24 hours. They can't close the vacancy, on the chance that you won't take the position. The schools are there to hire people, not meet and greet. If you can't/don't accept their offer, they have t keep interviewing and reviewing candidates until they hire someone.
Typical salary ranges are 18K- 25K average salaries are in the low 20's. The cost of living is low, and you can live okay on that salary, but you can't really save anything substantial. Even if you saved a quarter of your salary, $5K-$6K isn't going to go very far.

I went to the AASSA Fair about 5 years ago and was happy with it. There were a lot of attending schools and the atmosphere was very supportive. I would recommend staying at the hotel where the fair is being held - it allows for impromptu meetings and also gives you a chance to go back to your room between interviews and regroup. I researched the attending schools before going and was lucky enough to get hired at my first choice. While the pay in South America is lower than in North America there is the potential to save. It's also a good idea to check out living expenses as some areas are more expensive than others.
