My undergrad degree is in History, and I am certified to teach Secondary History, but I also have enough science credits to qualify for certification in general science in Arizona, and I passed our state test in Biology, so I have that too. So far, I have taught 2 years of science and 2 years of history in public high schools. I am considering taking some more chemistry classes and take the test for that.

When looking at job postings for science positions at international schools, often I see that a requirment to teach chemistry, lets say, would be to have a bachelors or masters degree in chemistry.

Am I going to have a hard time getting a chemistry or biology position, even if I am certified to teach both, because my bachelors is in History?

Just like in the U.S., science teachers are in demand. I really don't think you'll have a problem getting a job with your certifications. They can [i]say[/i] they want someone with a BS in chemistry, but personally I think that's just a lot of hooey.

Thank you for the reply. Does anyone else have any input on this? How "in demand" is Bio and Chemistry? I know it is, but can anyone comment on their experience? I would really appreciate it. I need to make a big decision whether to take these classes or not, and I don't want to put that much time and effort into something that isn't going to pay off. Please help if you can.
