Moving question-Region 1 DVD's

Answer I can't find anywhere:
I understand Region codes on DVD's. If I bring my own Region 1 DVD player, can I then play my Region 1 DVD's? Using voltage/plug adapters, of course. Does the TV/monitor interrupt the process? It is a closed loop at that point, right?
Anyone who has tried it would be a great help!

Just make sure your TV overseas was NTSC capability. I would strongly recommend getting a multi-region DVD player. I bought one through the US embassy strore, but more recently I went to my local electornics shop here in Qatar and they had some that weren't locked into place. Perhaps this is wrong but I like watching 3$ bootleg DVD's.... A perk of overseas life??!!

If you are talking about a computer download dvd region free from a torrent site and install it... no more region worries.

Btw... a dvd player on a computer has only 5 regions (can be changed 5 times) before it is locked on the last region used.
