How does one get a home loan / financing as an international school teacher. I would be interested in others experiences.

It is the same process. You provide all the same documents.
Contract, bank statements, etc.
I also wrote a letter saying that my income was exempt from taxes and my rent and utilities were paid giving me more disposible income.

Figure out the time change for your lender and give them the exact local times that they can call to confirm you information. This held up my loan. They were calling Kuwait between 11pm and 6 am and couldn´t figure out why there was no answer!!

I would think that it would vary wildly depending on the country where you are trying to buy the home.

I'm a Canadian, single mom living overseas for many years. I wanted to see if I'd be able to buy a retirement property/somewhere to call home for the summers. ING direct at first said I'd need a 50% down payment, but when I queried that (I still pay Canadian income tax every year as a factual res.) they came back with a much more reasonable 10%. They pre-approved my mortgage app. so I may be going house hunting over Christmas vacation.
