The International Schools Review Forum

This will be my first International teaching experience and I am wondering if schools are hiring SPED teachers? I have been teaching for several years in Inclusion classrooms and Self-contained classrooms. I am highly qualified to teach English and Reading. I was told I should apply to all the subjects that interest me, but my concern is wouldn't the school want you to have a certificate in the subject they are advertising? Any advice would be very helpful!!!

From my experience most international schools do not have Spec. Ed. Programs. x Many schools say that they do not provide services for special needs populations. However, the reality is that schools have kids that need extra help and evaluation. I have seen reading specialists and ESL pull out programs get dumped on becasue of this. They seem to appreciate Spec. Ed Certification and experience, but you would most likely need to take a reg. classroom or specialist position.
If you really want to work in Spec. Ed. and you are American you may want to look into Department of Defense schools.

Thanks for responding to my question. I guess I will have to focus on my classroom experience teaching English. I like Special Education, but i don't have to be the "Special Education teacher " at the school. Which leads me to a new question, I will post for some new comments. Thanks again.
