Renewal of Contract/Notice of Intentions DATES: YOUR SCHOOL?

Hi,

I am wondering when people in different schools need to give the intentions or sign up for the next year. My school wants contracts signed by Dec 8th, which I feel is way too early. I need to see what jobs are available in schools I want to be in are available before I throw in the towel at my current school!

Any feedback would be great, with your dates.

Thanks!

I'm at a school with a strong union and worker's council presence - so, faculty don't have to announce their plans until Feb 15. The school has tried to move the date forward but have been unsuccessful.

I'm all for a later date, but declaring your intentions after the big fairs is senseless from the point of view of the schools.

At my previous posts December was the time to announce your plans.

My school requires notice before the December holiday. The only reason they do it is so they can interview for definite openings at the January job fairs. I don't mind, because if you don't move out of your job, I can't have a guaranteed opening or offer at the January job fairs. A risk we all have to take! It is early, but they are interviewing earlier now too.

Are the recruiters responsible for moving this date forward by moving the fairs forward?

My school is December before the holidays. I am guessing this is because many schools start posting their needs by the end of December, and people go to hiring fairs to look for a job.

I know which school(s) I want to work at next year, I just don't know if a) they will have an opening in my subject area and b) if they would hire me if they did, so it is going to be a gamble for me I think.
