My experience is that most international schools students are not choosing a university in Europe just to save some money. For many professions the degree from Europe is not going to be the same as an American degree. My children are dual citizens, but I will only send them to university on the continent in which they want to work.

Thats extremely US eccentric, EU degrees and Unis are just as strong as US ones. Certain programs wont be the same studying accounting in the US will be different than it would be in the EU, and a few other regulated professions (medicine, laws) would be problematic, but a business degree from anywhere is a business degree, and the same with arts and letters.

Even medicine isn't too bad. There are some extra exams and such, but it isn't that hard to do.

Its more than exams, its experience, even then your EU training isnt going to entirely prepare you for US medical boards.

No kidding. But you can do your residency in the US after doing school in the EU or work before taking the boards. Just know that you might get last pick of residency locations depending on the timing.

The point is that sure, for law study, for example, you would want to study in the place where you want to practice, but for most things, including undergrad, there are lots of ways to get a cheap degree in the EU.

You can transfer legal licenses and take exams for accounting in international jurisdictions. That wasnt what I stated, I stated it would be "problematic" and the medical practice scenario is also problematic.

Yes really, and students read/study laws, medicine, accounting, and business, etc. at first degree (undergrad) level.

Yes in the US. First degrees in Business and Accounting are popular in the US, and the LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) was conferred until the early 70s, currently a number of US Unis confer the BS of Legal Studies. There are a number of first degrees in medicine conferred in the US including nursing, etc..

Which can easily be studied in Europe and transferred. For free or very little.

No not as easily transferred, hence the problematic issues discussed earlier, and not so cheap either, see prior posts above.

There are a lot of options for free study. It's about finding what works for your kids' interests and experiences as well as your budget. Good luck!
