I think you made the right decision, in that I agree with @SJ, that the comp offered you is so low my followup to accepting it would have been solely to serve the purpose of getting you into SG, and then immediately begin looking for a new and better job, as even ESOL could pay better than the first IS was offering you.
Concur with @SJ the recruitment experience can go wrong and bad at any point. Even when you do everything right and make it to the end, someone else can do it better.
