I'd agree it's a different perspective.
And that's the crux of the matter, isn't it? What is fine for one person is not for another, and so it's all of matter of me having to really sit down and weigh out what situation would be okay with me and whose perspective would mine most jive with. And even then, you still don't know until you get there.

you appear to be a wise woman. I'm sure no matter what, you'll make smart decisions wherever life leads you.
Hopefully, you're able to find a city/school that you can enjoy and feel secure in. Either way, I wish you the best.

we had an interview with this school and it went very well, to the point where they told us we would be a perfect fit to the school, then they emailed us the package.
Huh. Who were you communicating with? (If you don't mind me asking.) Maybe it was a different level. In email, I explicitly mentioned my concerns with security. In his words: "bad things happen here" - that's pretty blunt in my mind. How specific did you get with your security questions? I mentioned that I'd read the State Department Travel information and asked for his perspective...did you ask about specific incidents?
Also, if you don't mind me asking: package - good, okay, not so good?
It was 2 years ago now so I can't remember who I spoke with, but there were 4 of them I think via Skype. I'm sure the director was there, but not sure who else was off the top of my head.
Package was nyuh..OK..nothing too great; I don't remember being overly blown away by it, but I'm sure it's changed a bit now? We didn't ask for anything specific, just during the interview we did ask if anything has happened to teachers there?..that's when they told us about the hold up. This prompted our security questions via email the next day, just questions about going out, are there really restricted areas, etc. NORMAL security questions that anyone should ask when going to a place like Guat.

Re: package. Thanks. I'm not expecting something totally amazing there the first time out. As long as there's decent health insurance, a safe place to live, and enough money to survive and travel some, then I'm good for at least my first jaunt out.
Re: security. Okay, so you were a bit more detailed than me, though I was told via email that you definitely go with others if you go out in the city, that some teachers have been held up (but not hurt), etc. I guess we'll see what happens when we get into more detail.
Thanks!
