What is the cost of living like in Oman ?
Is it lower than in other parts of the Gulf ?
This is probably something hard to answer but what is considered a decent salary in Oman for teachers with 7-10 years of work experience
Cost of living in Oman ???
Kind off
Average salary with a BA is around $38K-$40K a year (USD). Thats a very rough estimate.
As for cost of living the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is 56%, meaning that costs (excluding housing) are about 44% less then costs in New York City (NYC). The Local Purchasing Power (LPP) is 105, which means that you can "buy" about 5% more then you could in NYC given the average local wage (which is about $1,600USD a month in disposable income). I give both numbers because most school provide housing.
Below are some "average" costs: (all prices are in USD)

I left out some of the more "adult" orientated activities as they arent appropriate for this forum. They also represent costs in the overall region, not a specific city, which could vary considerably. The largest expenditure of discritionary income is on restaurants.

Well
@Missy
I just averaged the 5 schools listed on Search in Oman. The numbers are below (the first number is BA+4 years, the second MA+8 year).
ABA, Muscat: $42K, $44K
Al Batinah IS: $37K, $39K
Al Sahwa: $31K, $34K
American IS: $36K, $42K
Sultan's School: $27K, $40K
You didnt say what degree you had, so i used the MA+8 years experience figure (because step scales on the senior end of experience, see much less influence from an advance degree). That adds up to (44+39+34+42+40)=199/5=39.8, rounded up is around $40K.
I adjusted the range of $38K-$40K reasoning (in my professional experience) that the average stipend for an advance degree is worth about 5% of salary (between 2% and 10%, some schools go even higher, but the mean is always ones best estimate). So .05*40=2, so assuming the school penalizes you for not having a masters (assuming you dont have one), youd expect to make somewhere between $38K and $40K.
FYI, in my experience advance degrees are either worth very little, or very much. There isnt a lot of middle ground or linear progression, and experience tends to be the big equalizer across the salary scale.

Yes
Yes, each school profile on search lists in addition to lots of other helpful information, there salary for BA+4 years, MA+8 years and other aspects of the compensation package, as well as what they estimate a teacher might save each year.
Is it accurate? Well its as accurate as the schools themselves make it, since they are the ones that input the information. Most of the salary information on schools profiles are still based on the 2010 data, since the 2012/2013 school year is still a ways a way. They usually update there salary information over the summer. So we wont really see 2011's data until this coming summer when its used for 2012/2013. Schools dont have much of an incentive to under report their salary, and if they over report it too much it looks suspicious, and costs them teachers (would you have a lot of confidence in a school who profile claimed a salary of $36K-$40K, only to be offered $32K). There are people on this board with similar scenarios. So i suppose short of a schools own HR site, and posting their salary scale online (which you seldom see), its the most accurate out there.
According to Search's profile, The American School is reported as $36K (BA+4 years) and $42K (MA+8 years), and is based on 2011 (this years salary scale). They dont publish their salary schedule on their website, so I dont know where you got the $35k-$45k salary figure.
