Hello!
I am a U.S. teacher certified in secondary English, elementary, and special education with 5+ years of teaching experience. I am married and plan to seek a position in Europe within the next two years. I know....I know.....Europe may not be the best place to make much money, but we are planning to do this for the opportunity to live in Europe, not so we can be rich.
My husband teaches history at a community college full-time, but has no K-12 certification. Any ideas about what kind of employment he might be able to find?
Will our situation make it difficult for me to find a job? We recognize that he might have some difficulty finding work, and from what I've read, he will need to work so that we aren't living like college students....
Any opinions, suggestions, advice, etc. would be welcome and appreciated.
Just beginning research
Thanks for your reply.
I have elementary certification and secondary English certification in addition to the special ed cert., and experience teaching both, and am not excessively worried about being able to find something in one of my certification areas. My years of teaching experience (at all grade levels at some point) won't hurt, either. I could easily add a certification area or two by just taking the Praxis tests.
My husband is planning to find full-time or adjunct online teaching opportunities. He's not at all interested in teaching K-12, unfortunately.
We'll get by :)

@ichiro: In terms of my teaching experience, I know my OP was vague. I taught at an elementary school and taught K-5 language arts and 5-6 grade science (don't ask). I also taught all subjects in a middle school classroom (5-8), and have been teaching high school English (both as the primary teacher in the classroom and as a co-teacher) for the past 3+ years. I have also taught history classes (but I am not certified social studies/history).
I serve in several leadership positions in my large high school as well, leading two Professional Learning Communities, curriculum writing committees, the school leadership team, school improvement team, and on and on.....
I have definitely not had "just a support role" in my teaching experience, although I have done that as well. (I don't mean to sound less than humble, I'm just trying to clarify my experience)
I will keep working on my husband to get his certification. I'll try not to nag too much. In the meantime, I have started the process of registering through Search Associates.
Thanks so much for the input!
