I was there a while back. the staff has always been a mix of missionaries and partiers. You just have to keep your private life private. This can be challenging at times when HS kids are out at all the clubs. If you like that scene check with your collegues. I think that religion plays a part when you want a promotion or advancement. Those jobs seem to go to those that are like minded with corp. regardless of talent imho.

I've been in Kazakhstan awhile. In my experience, the local women still will pursue you in Kazakhstan even if you are a teacher. I'm a geeky, overweight nerd but I literally have to push the women off of me here! Many of them are from small villages or Ukraine and they don't quite understand yet you make less than an oil man. Even your Western style teacher salary is more than local Kazakh men make in general. They will see you as "white" and "American" or "Western European" and will be knocking down your door to get to know you. They'll fall in love with you but once they figure out that you make a fraction of wages of the Expat oil men, then they'll either stay or go depending on how much they really like you. So us male teacher gotta try a little bit harder and step up our game further than the oil men to win the affection of a local Kazakhstani lady! I've found in general Slavic women (Russian, Ukrainian, etc.) tend to be more gold-diggers while the ethnic Kazakh women don't care so much because they know you'll offer them a life of adventure and get them out of their remote towns even if you don't bank quite as much as an oil man.

I'm telling you all this from experience. I dated a Ukrainian woman here in Kaz for like two years. She even lived with me for awhile. However, she split when she realized I'm not so rich. Good riddance. Now I'm married to an awesome Kazakh lady who is a great mom to our new baby!

That's just my experience in Kaz.

What would a net salary look like for someone with eight years experience?
