Help Please!!!! Is a M.Ed with a cert. in TEFL enough?

Post by kruegs4 »

Hey folks,

My wife and I will both receive a licensure in M.Ed TESL from a school in Mass., USA in August. We are hoping to get a job somewhere south of the USA. Is the qualification we are about to receive enough to get a first job? This the second time asking a question very similar to this. I don't like to repeat questions but I didn't get any responses last time and I have had difficulty finding a thread that covers this topic.

Thanks for your help,

Ichiro,

Thank you for the reply. I guess my questions weren't clear.
I have been teaching English abroad for about 6 years, half in Costa Rica half in South Korea. Yes, I will be earning a teaching licensure in ESL.

My main question is, when I receive that licensure will that make it so I can easily get a job or will I need to become licensed in another subject as well?

I am concerned that since I will be applying for international schools this licensure won't be in demand. Is the pay in Latin America really as bad as you mentioned? That's about the same as I was making in a private academy in Costa Rica. Maybe I will have to start looking at a different region.

Thanks again,

Yes, you definitely need to get proper credentials/certification/qualifications.

And yes, you might be with a dodgy school. However, there are quite a few excellent and decent paying schools (some pay very well) in Latin America. So, do some research and you'll be surprised to see what you can find.

Good luck.
