Air ticket at initial hire

How do schools handle the air ticket once they hire you? Do they book the ticket themselves and send you the details, or are you expected to fly yourself over (under a set price ceiling, I assume), and get reimbursed upon arrival? Is the employee given a choice or does it just depend on each schools' policy?

It really depends on the school. Some make the arrangements for you so all the new hires arrive more or less together (but my school did ask my preference for airlines). Others I've seen on Search's Web site say they will reimburse you up to a set limit.
