Admin License Based on EdD
Admin License Based on EdD
I recently got an EdD but the program is not a licensure based program. I have a current teaching license. Do you know if any states that make it easy to upgrade or get the initial principal or admin license based on a degree? Or, any states that make this easier?

You will want to apply for the District of Columbia (DC) administrative credential (which is an all level leadership credential). The standard (professional grade) 4 year renewable credential requires:
1) Bachelors degree (4 year)
2) Masters degree or higher (there was a confusion for a number of year if the Masters needed to be in Ed.Ld, it doesnt). A doctoral degree will also qualify
3) 4 Years of FTE and HOR K12/KS teaching experience
4) Passing the ETS School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA)
The only real work assuming you have the experience is completing the CRB and the SLLA exam, its a long exam, takes a whole day.
reneal requires 200 contact hours of PD every 4 years.
If you dont have the 4 years of experience but have 2 years of FTE and HOR K12/KS teaching experience you can receive the initial (entry grade) administrative credential which is valid for 2 years and non-renewable. When you add the 2 years required for the initial credential, and then 2 additional years either in leadership working on the initial credential or 2 additional years as a DT/IT you will have the 4 total years required for the standard administrative credential.
