UAE Rent and expenses

Hi,
Looking at a post with salary but no housing allowance. What AED would you suggest the average teacher spends on accommodation in say Dubai or Abu Dhabi each month?

and secondly what is a typical amount given as a housing allowance for say an upper to mid ranking school.

I recognise that it is fairly difficult to come up with a exact figures but your guesses are likely to be better than mine. :-)

Don't do it. Any decent school offers housing or a housing allowance. Don't make the mistake of thinking it will be OK. It won't. And if a school is at that level, then it is going to cut corners in many other things.

The salary is average for an IT and on the low side for leadership, but it depends what the actual role is (its lite but okay for junior leadership) but its low for senior leadership. Without housing its a really low offer for anything that isnt ESOL or isnt an LH appointment, which is what it sounds like it is an LH appointment for a foreigner/expat. Housing will easily take a quarter of that and a third if you want western amenities. Its a significant bite, without housing the salary is really about AED฿20000 and thats typical for an ET. If your a single guy and want to go native with local housing you could live relatively cheap, but the leadership experience would really have to be important to you, and that the IS isnt giving any housing is as @SJ indicated a signal of what kind of problems you will have in the future, they will cut corners on everything and likely expect you too as well.
