What is a good salary in UAE?

Post by Lastname_Z »

Hello all,

I'm wondering what is considered a good salary in UAE.

The offer I've been told about is as follows...

54,000 Canadian per year, no tax. This converts to about 143,163 AED.
Accommodations + Flights + Medical Insurance covered.
I'm single, no family to provide for.

Is this good? Would I be saving money?

Any information about this would be helpful.

Hi. no personal experience but have been in int'l teaching quite a few years (and reading various related forums for longer). In general I have seen a range of 9000 to 17000 AED a month for the UAE (with accommodation included or housing allowance added to salary). So, you could see the nearly 12K a month you are being offered as a decent amount. Or you could see it as being well under what the better schools are offering.

I guess all that is really relevant is whether you think you could live a nice lifestyle and save a decent amount of money. From what I have read, that might depend on whether you are in Dubai or Abu Dhabi as Dubai is generally reported to be the more expensive of the two. Also it would depend on whether your accommodation includes utilities as they could eat into your salary quite a bit.

So, hopefully someone with more first hand experience will jump in, but depending on some of the details of your situation it would seem that it could be at leaat a decent starting situation for you.

that's a good salary and you will save money...it depends most on your lifestyle, whether you get a car, then whether or not housing is provided (usually is), and then whether you're in abu dhabi or dubai. but you should easily save money on that salary.

best luck,

It depends more on you than the salary. The salary quoted is pretty good, not the best but good. If you are disciplined you can save some serious coin. If you get bored, you could easily see your savings disappear.

This sounds like an Abu Dhabi not Dubai package as AD usually pays more than Dubai. Can you save, absolutely, but there are TONS of things to do in and around the country so how much you save is up to you. A single should be able to save 15,000-20,000 USD a year and still travel a bit.

I'm currently here and have been since 2011. I love this place and don't see me leaving anytime soon.

My experience is that people get caught up in credit card and loan debt here. Simply say NO to the mentioned and you'll do just fine.
