Question for counselors/admin

Post by CanChi4 »

Happy Thanksgiving! Before I bake a pie, I have a question:
My husband and I are trying to fill out the Search application for counselor positions. The site, of course, is geared towards teaching and admin positions so my question is, how did those of you who are counselors answer some of the questions?
1)Positions held - my husband has been a counselor but is currently in administration in mental health. So he can put years as a counselor -should he check the closest admin position to what he holds now under the admin tab and put years held for that?
2) As I said, he is now in administration. Would that mean anything to Search? He actually created the school in his facility (created curriculum and hired teachers).
3) Do the Search people understand mental health licensing or would he need to clarify what some of his licenses mean?
Thanks!

SA is looking for experience in schools. Generally you can put down any years spent working in a school, and exclude any years in other environments. If your husband's background is more complex, do the best you can, and clarify in the personal statement.
Be careful when it comes time to work out years of experience on the pay scale. Normally that's done from the SA form info, but if your husband's background includes counseling kids in non-school environments, there's an argument to at least partially count those years. You'll have to establish the relevance of that work to the job he's been hired for.
