TBH, I can't speak first hand. I have however had conversations with colleagues and friends who have worked in BKK and the rumors you are alluding to always come seem to come up. Not particularly factual I know, but perhaps more fuel to the fire.

Had colleagues who worked there not too long ago and I also know people who have worked at a couple of their sister schools in Thailand. I have heard a few stories and they aren't pretty...

Hmmm, I'm heading there in July, I did my own recon visit last week and spoke to people working there: people who have been there many years, people for whom this year is their first year, expats from Australia, European countries as well as US... Management and average teachers, plus I met with the Fathers, locals working in HR, finance and in a variety of receptions and admin roles... I didn't experience or hear anything that resembled the posts on the paid site....

Buffalofan- not sure who you talked to or know, but there are no sister schools to Ruamrudee, they are a single stand alone entity with no connections to any other school in Thailand or anywhere else in the world (yet). I know this for a fact as it was one of the questions I asked during my visit.

I personally know teachers at BIST who hold it in high regard so I guess it is all relative. If it is so bad, why are there very long queues at all the job fairs??? Just asking???

This is not going to be my first International gig, but it is the one I am most looking forward to...

To the best of my knowledge, this is meant to be an ok school.

Some of my ex-students who moved countries go here and find it ok. I've heard no major complaints from their parents either.

I don't know people who work directly at the school, but some of my friends who used to work in Bangkok state that it's an ok school to work for. There were some whispers about the board and I believe that the long term head of school is leaving or has just left (I forgot her name). From memory, it is still meant to be living off it's strong reputation from the 2000's - but this is just hearsay of course.

As such - it really depends on personal contacts when it comes to finding out information about different schools. I know this can be hard as everyone has their own opinion that they are entitled to. Due to this - I guess the best we can do is read what other people say and decide for ourselves.

I did complete a bit of research a few years ago as I was slightly interested in working here but was put off by religion in the school (personal preference) and not knowing what was exactly happening with decisions made by the board. For reference - I don't know what was going on with the board or if there was even a problem, but it's worth mentioning I guess.

If I was going for my first job - I'd probably consider it as the Bangkok lifestyle can be quite nice from what I've heard and there are definitely worse schools in Bangkok by a long way.

Well, I'm happy that you are satisfied and hope that things work out well for you. On the other hand, although I don't know what the exact nature of your recon trip was, I am wondering under what possible circumstances any current employee of the school was going to say something negative or even spread malicious truths about the school to a visitor that may somehow blow back on them.

I have no knowledge of the school one way or the other, just trying to picture how or what someone would have shared with you that would have turned you off of working there.

I concur with wrldtrvlr, how you would find yourself and a current IT in a position that would give you unrestricted information or input that wouldn't have attached a great deal of risk to it would be very unlikely.

I also can not reconcile the conclusion that this is "an okay school", either the ITs do not know any better and have a limited basis of experience or they have low expectations.

An IS can have relationships that arent public knowledge or meant for public dissemination, just because an admin/HOS says there arent doesnt mean its true.

The longer lines are because its Thailand, there is very little negative information available at a fair, the fairs are designed to serve the recruiters and admins needs, and the vast majority of ITs, especially at entry level fairs are based on regional location. Third tier French ISs, Italian ISs and Japanese ISs will get huge lines at fairs because ITs want to go to those regions at any cost.

Thats not to say this type of experience doesnt have its attractors, and benefits for those who want to live in Thailand, collect there money and can allow the stress wash over them without getting invested.
