What do so-called tier 1 schools look for?

I am currently in my 10th year teaching, my sixth internationally (2 different schools, 2 different continents so far). I am UK trained, decent references (I think!). I was wondering, in your experience, what are the 'top' schools looking for in applications? I am specifically looking at South East Asia.
