Hiring as a Married Couple

Post by datsyukian »

Hello everyone,

Both my wife and I have taught in international schools before but when we were single. We are now married with a baby on the way. Would you say it is difficult to find a school who would hire a married couple with a baby? I teach secondary and she teaches elementary. We are both highly qualified but have never looked for jobs as a pair. Open to locations.

Thanks!

I was wondering if it is worth mentioning that we would consider a single position, assuming it was a bigger city with other possible options for the partner.

Teaching couples are preferred over all other marital statuses, as the IS benefits from saving in housing costs, etc. Having an infant complicates the issue, if both of you are appointed than they know that there are going to be times where the baby interferes with work. If only one of you works than your an IT with a trailing spouse and a dependent and thats going to make you a logistically difficult hire.
